Terrific Tots (Members Only)

Wednesdays and Fridays* | 9:30 am

On Wednesday and Friday mornings when Pinellas County Schools are in session, members are invited to join us for songs, movement, art and story time in Great Beginnings at the museum! Terrific Tots is a unique bonding experience for children ages 1-3 and their caregivers. This is a great community time for tots and their adults! This program is free and is available for members only. Explore art, music and language with your little one in this fun and safe environment. At the beginning of each class, we will join in sing-a-longs that encourage movement and caregiver involvement. Please note that on Fridays we tend to get MESSY with our activities, so we encourage participants to dress accordingly! For questions, please visit greatex.org or call (727) 821-8992 ext. 209.

Great Connections

January 12 | 10 am-12 pm

Great Connections is a monthly, sensory-friendly program for children with special needs and their families. Great Ex will modify lights and sounds and will provide a “cool down” room for families who need to take a break. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other families and community resources while the kids enjoy the power of PLAY! Thank you to 211 Cares Help Me Grow for being our community focus partner! Great Connections is $5 per person (for non-members) and free for members. Contact Lael at larango@greatex.org for more information.

Toys of the Month

To kick off a great new year at Great Ex, we want to celebrate the little things by connecting our featured toys to lesser-known holidays— giving you something to celebrate each and every month! In January, we will celebrate Puzzle Day (Jan. 29) and Kid Inventor Day (Jan. 17) with a few featured toys of the month. Learn more here!

Great Expansion Capital Campaign

In the season of sharing recaps and resolutions, we want to give an update to our $2 million capital campaign, The Great Expansion. We have raised over $1.2 million for this great project and are currently in the second phase, which focuses on re-imagining the gallery floor. Visit the museum to see our new installation of named street and avenue signs, street lights, and benches, recognizing capital campaign donors who have contributed over $10,000! These specific donors designated their pledges to a new feature on the gallery floor with naming rights.

The capital campaign aims to enhance your children’s museum with more fun, better play, and a bigger impact for generations to come! Learn more and help us reach our goal by visiting greatex.org/expansion. We are sincerely grateful for your donation.

Volunteer at Great Ex

January is National Mentoring Month! You, too, can be a mentor to Great Ex kids by volunteering at the museum! We are looking for creative, enthusiastic volunteers to join our team! As a volunteer, you could greet visitors, get your groove on during one of our famous dance parties and work side-by-side with our gallery educators to bring science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) topics to life in our exciting educational programs. Volunteers are an important part of the Great Ex team! Volunteering isn’t just play—you’ll gain valuable experience in customer service, leadership, performance, education and more. Ages 14 and up should reach out to volunteer@greatex.org for more information.

After-School Explorers

Great Ex is now offering one-hour / six-week programs at schools in our community! We offer a variety of interactive and engaging programs for explorers in Pre-K through 5th grade. To find out how to bring the After-School Explorers Club to your school this year, ask your school to contact Lael at larango@greatex.org.

Birdies for Tampa Bay Charities

We’re excited to announce that Great Explorations will be a participating charity in this year’s Valspar Championship! You can get involved and help raise funds for Great Explorations Children’s Museum by pledging one cent ($0.01) or more for every birdie made by contestants during the Valspar Championship (March 16-22, 2020). Birdies for Tampa Bay Charities will then donate 100% of the money received to the charity named by the donor on the pledge card! Donors can also attempt to guess the number of birdies made during the tournament, and potentially win a prize!

Learn more about Birdies for Tampa Bay Charities by clicking here. Contact Marthanne at mgillen@greatex.org to receive your pledge card. March 19, 2020 is the deadline for submitting pre-tournament pledges.
